Research and Development Manager,
Global Engagement Initiative Team
Melody Lau is a Master’s student in Global Political Economy at the National Tsing Hua University, with Bachelor’s degrees in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and East Asian Studies, and minors in History and Japanese. Her Malaysian Chinese heritage and upbringing in China and the U.S. sparked her passion for cultural exchange and understanding complex relationships.
Driven by a desire to cultivate skills to effect meaningful change, Melody pursued opportunities for cross-cultural dialogue and insights from diverse perspectives. She is an alumna of two student-led international programs by the International Student Conferences, Inc. that foster U.S.-Japan and U.S.-China relations through people-to-people diplomacy. These experiences deepened her understanding of U.S.-Asia relations and inspired her continued involvement in diplomacy. Her dedication led to her election to the organizing committee for subsequent conferences, where she managed logistics and facilitated immersive experiences for students.
Melody’s involvement with BCEA began when its founder spoke at a webinar co-hosted by the 4th China-America Student Conference, which she organized, and the U.S.-China Heartland Association. Her alignment with BCEA’s mission led her to join the 4th online summit as a group leader in House Prudentia, where she earned recognition as an outstanding member. She also won first place in the 4th BCEA Social Impact Proposal competition with co-creator Krislyn Massey.
In her free time, Melody enjoys exploring cultural and historical sites, reading, watching shows, and playing video games.
